Milan is served by two large airports, Milan Malpensa Airport, which handles mainly international flights, and the smaller Milan Linate airport, nearby Milan with mostly domestic and European flights. In general, flying into Milan, Italy tends to be a relatively hassle-free experience.

Milan's main Airport, Malpensa Airport (MXP) is located 48 km / 30 miles from central Milan. The airport is within easy distance of Milan city centre, which can be reached in less than 50 minutes, with a reliable, fast train system and with direct access to main roads. This busy airport handles mainly international flights and has two terminals. Major airlines include Air Canada, Air Europe, Air France, Alitalia, American Airlines, Austrian Airlines, British Airways, Continental Airlines, Iberia, Lufthansa, Meridiana, United Airlines and many more.

Milan Airport (MXP) Terminals - Milan, Italy
The following terminals serve many airlines, travelling to a wide range of locations.

  • Terminal 1 - serves arrivals and departures for international and domestic services. Built in 1998, this terminal opened in 1998 and was designed to handle 24 million passengers each year
  • Terminal 2 - is for charter flights and some international and domestic services
  • There is a regular, free shuttle bus service between the airport's two terminals which departs from the forecourt

Milan Airport (MXP) By Bus - Milan, Italy
Bus services run from the terminal departures area and travel to various locations in and around Milan. The Malpensa Shuttle departs every 20 minutes to Milan Central Station from 06:20 to midnight and the journey lasts around an hour. There is also a bus service to Milan Gallarate Station which runs every 20 minutes between 05:35 to 19:50 and another shuttle bus that connects Milan's Malpensa and Linate airports at regular intervals throughout the day.

Milan Airport (MXP) By Car - Milan, Italy
The airport has direct access to the A8, A26 and a new road is planned linking the A4 Milan-Turin highway to Milan's western ring road. The journey into Milan by car should take around 45 to 50 minutes, although this can be longer at peak times.

Milan Airport (MXP) By Taxi - Milan, Italy
There are usually plenty of authorised taxis lined up by the main arrivals and departures area of each terminal. The fares are quite reasonable and the journey to central Milan will take about 50 minutes.

Milan Airport (MXP) By Train - Milan, Italy
The Malpensa Express runs every 30 minutes, connecting Terminal 1 and the Milan Cadorna railway station and the train journey to central Milan takes approximately 40 minutes. There is also a local shuttle bus that runs every hour and connects Terminal 2 with Gallarate railway station, with good connections to Milan central railway station.

Located just 7 km / 4 miles east of Milan, Linate International Airport (LIN) handles mainly domestic flights and daily flights to London, Paris, Amsterdam, Madrid and Frankfurt. Linate Airport (LIN) By Car - Milan, Italy
The city of Milan is easy to reach by car and has excellent links to the Autostrada (motorway) 8, which leads to northern Milan and Autostrada 4, which leads to Milan and to Novara, west of Milan.

Linate Airport (LIN) By Taxi - Milan, Italy
A taxi ride from the airport into the centre of Milan lasts around 10 minutes and is a quick way to travel into the city centre. There are usually plenty of authorised taxis lined up at the taxi stand in front of the airport exit.
